The Hands that Help, Hold Hope
While we can physically bring the girls in the SHE Rescue Home into a safe environment, free from those who seek to exploit them, the trauma they suffer is often far more complicated to bring them through. Trauma is a silent captor.
When ignored or invalidated it can become haunting, reshaping personalities and thought processes. It runs the risk of redefining who they are — redefining them as permanently damaged, disposable and worthless... which they are not!
When someone enters into that pain and hurt, compassionately sitting with them through it, healing can begin.
Child trauma is complex, and our counsellors and social workers work diligently to find safe and healthy reintegration options for the girls. It takes a special skill and kind of compassion to journey through a child's trauma with them, helping them find hope on the other side.
One of the greatest gifts you can give the girls is someone who understands the complexities of what they have been through, can offer solutions with coping strategies and genuine compassion.
Through further education for our counsellors and social workers, any increase in their trauma training, mental health training or child protection means that our girls receive the best care possible. We are ensuring our teams can provide the girls with comprehensive, evidence-based trauma treatment, helping them to not only heal but to thrive. We are strengthening them with skilled counsel and tools of effective therapies.
To help further educate the hands that help hold hurt, is to help free those trapped by it.
