We often say ‘together we can end human trafficking.’ But how can we? The answer is to break the cycle of exploitation. There are several things that make people vulnerable to human trafficking - poverty, desperation, isolation. Anyone seeking to better their lives can fall into a traffickers trap.
This is where traffickers strike - A fake job offer, a fake relationship, an offer of charity with strings attached. Human traffickers prey upon peoples hope.
We can protect people through education, building community, and meeting peoples basic needs (food, water, shelter and hope).
Once people are rescued, we have to provide space for healing and rebuilding. Human trafficking strips people of their value and humanity - it takes time to rediscover your value and rebuild your life. Providing the time and resources for this to happen is essential. It safeguards their reintegration to community and helps protect them from being re-victimised.
This is why our reintegration program is a minimum of 3 years with social work, counselling, financial and education support. Long-term investment in people is the only way to see permanent change.Find out more here
