Choose hope in this season!
7 years ago, in February of 2013, 16 year old Chanthany* was rescued and brought into the SHE Rescue Home. With a history of sexual exploitation and domestic violence in her family home, this beautiful young girl came into the home feeling broken and alone.
She fled her violent family home with her boyfriend before coming into our care. After an argument with her boyfriend, they split up and Chanthany* found herself alone and vulnerable. A group of dangerous men took advantage of her and she became trapped in exploitation for weeks.
Miraculously, she was rescued and brought into our care and, for the first time in a very long time, she was living in a safe home and provided for. She had never been to school before or had any kind of education and really struggled with being in class with girls much younger than her. She refused to go to school and so she began vocational training in sewing.
Her mental health affected many areas of her life and there were months where she did not engage in any education and refused to attend any training. In these times, the housemothers provided care and encouragement to her within the home, while our social workers and counsellors supported her and encouraged her to continue in her vocational education in order to equip herself for her future.
We were able to offer her employment in the HER Initiative, using her sewing skills to sustainably support herself financially.
Now years later, in May of 2020, with her perpetrators caught and sentenced and her case closed, she is still working for us in the HER Initiative, now supporting not only herself, but her husband and their baby.
Chanthany’s* life has been completely transformed since we met her.
We have replaced her trauma of imprisonment with pure freedom, her hurt with love and understanding and her fear with peace and joy.
Journeying this with her reminds us of the incredible need in our world to not only protect and provide for vulnerable girls, but also cherish them and mend their hearts.
This season, choose hope by being a part of the bigger vision to see transformation in our world. Your donation really does restore lives.
