ABOUT Morakot*

Morakot*, a resilient 12-year-old girl, has faced more challenges than any child should ever endure. She and her elderly grandmother, who has cared for her most of her life, are struggling to make ends meet in a slum community. They live in a small rented room provided by an NGO that began assisting them in 2019. The NGO brought Marakot* to our attention when she left school in order to find a job so that she could support her grandmother. In searching for work her neighbours set up for her to have an ‘interview’ with a recruiter associated with human trafficking. Traffickers are a constant danger in her community, and her friends have even been approached by individuals intending to lure them into exploitation. Her grandmother found out and asked for her to be removed from the community to keep her safe from violence, and the constant threat of exploitation.

Morakot* was welcomed into the SHE Rescue Home with her favourite meal - caramelized pork. She is very creative and enjoys working with her hands making crafts.

Morakot’s* FAMILY

Morakot’s* parents divorced when she was born and they left her with her grandmother to be raised. She hasn’t had contact with her parents or other family in years. Her grandmother has been raising her alone without any support.

Morakot’S* FUTURE

Morakot’s* has a deep interest in sewing and craftsmanship and hopes to one day pursue a career in this creative field. However, her main goal is to be able to create a stable life for her and her grandmother. She will stay in school until she is old enough to start a vocational sewing program.

Our social workers will continue to support and work with her grandmother to make sure they are all looked after and build a community she can reintegrate too safely. Her counsellor will make sure she feels safe and learns key skills in identifying people who are not safe.

Sponsor Marakot* today and help her realize her potential, away from the dangers of trafficking and into a future full of promise.
