If you have been on social media lately, it’s likely you’ve seen Traffickinghub’s video exposing Pornhub circulating. The campaign intends to petition against the operation of Pornhub, because of the company’s perpetuation of child sex trafficking and sexual abuse.

It shares heartbreaking stories, like the 14 year old who was kidnapped at knife point and then raped on camera for 12 hours, her trauma shared for all Pornhub viewers to see.

Organisations we partner with have shared articles around this video and topic.

So we thought we would talk about what we’ve seen.

In many girls’ traumatic experiences of trafficking and exploitation, including the girls in the SHE Rescue Home, pornography is used as a tool of abuse and grooming. Girls are shown pornography from a very young age to normalise sexual behaviour.

Girls are shown sex before they even know what sex is.

This kind of sexual harassment creates an unhealthy understanding of relationships. Our counsellors have the difficult but important job of breaking down these ingrained perceptions of sex and relationships. They teach the girls what healthy relationships look like and how to recognise abuse.

It’s devastating but the reality is that pornography perpetuates child sex trafficking, sexual harassment and rape.

And It’s Not OK.

The work we do is an active stand against all that is involved in the pornography industry.

No one should ever have to be treated in ways that this industry allows and encourages. The trauma and hurt from these experiences is why we are so committed to rescuing and restoring girls and fighting the culture and the roots of sexual crimes.

In the way that we understand poverty and lack of education are significant pillars for trafficking and exploitation, we also know from the tragic stories we hear that pornography is another pillar that holds up sexual abuse.

Partner with us to see these strongholds crumble, setting free generations from abuse.

If you want to read more, Traffickinghub has linked plenty of articles that shed light on different aspects of this issue, most of them revolving around the topical petition.
