Five New Girls!
In the month of September, we saw 5 new girls rescued and brought into the safety of our She Rescue Home. That is 5 less girls caught in the cycle of slavery and sexual exploitation. We are so excited for their journeys that are about to take place - the restoration and transformation that is to come.
Meet the girls:
Sreyleak* 18 years old: Sreyleak*, along with a group of vulnerable girls, was found at the Vietnam border, stranded and afraid. Under the impression of travelling for a job opportunity, Sreyleak* was unknowingly being smuggled illegally into China, landing her in prison.
Chanty* 18 years old: Out of a desire to financially support her family, Chanty* also took the job opportunity in China. Separated from her family and trapped in a foreign country, this lie up-ended her entire world. Meanwhile, the perpetrators took off and escaped.
Sreymoa* 8 years old: If it wasn’t for Sreymoa*’s teacher’s concern for her injuries, Sreymoa* would not be safe in our care today. Sreymoa*, afraid of her perpetrators, kept the abuse a secret and feigned sickness. The perpetrators have been arrested but the court case ahead appears to be a difficult and rocky road as they are minors.
Sreykhouch* 10 years old: Sreykhouch* is involved in a court case and at risk of further exploitation. Knowing details about the sexual exploitation in her community and fearing testifying about it in court, Sreykhouch* is faced with difficulties no 10 year old should ever have to bear.
Panha* 13 years old: Panha*, aged 13, was sexually exploited when travelling to visit her mum in Thailand. Left stranded at the border, strangers found her, took her to the police to report the case and connected to her to our support.
These are their pasts.
At the moment, these summaries feel like their entire world, their entire identity. But we know better. We know that each of these girls hold hopes and aspirations. They have unique characteristics that will continue to flourish as they grow. They have new ideas and new perspectives. These are the things that shape their identity and that define who they are - not their trauma.
Sreyleak*, Chanty*, Sreymoa*, Srekhouch* and Panha*: you are each so dearly loved and we welcome you into our Home with open arms. Just wait for all that’s in store for you.
