ABOUT SREY LOy*

Like many girls her age in Cambodia, Srey Noy* (15) knew her family was struggling financially and asked if she could leave school to find a job to help them. She found a great job in Phnom Penh working in hospitality and left her family to go a live with her boss. At first the work was great and she was able to send money home to help her family. However, the living situation soon became unbearable in the house as she was abused and threated while being told to continue her hospitality work during the day. She called her brother to help her escape and he was able to pick her up. Once she was home, she told her parents what had happened and they reported it to the police. Fearing for her safety, her parent asked for help and she was brought to the SHE Rescue Home.

Srey Noy* loves to play football/soccer and her favourite food is fried squid. She wants to go back to school and become a mathematics teacher. She is continuing her grade 8 studies from when she left to work.

SREY Loy’s* FAMILY

Srey Noy* comes from a large family with 3 brothers and 2 sisters. She is the second youngest in the family. Her parents work on a farm during the rice harvest season. During the other seasons of the year her father works in construction or fishing (depending on wet season etc) and her mother works selling corner store items from the front of their house.

SREYLen’S* FUTURE

Srey Noy* will stay at the SHE Rescue Home while her court case continues. The perpetrators are on the run from the police so it could be a while until the community is safe for her to reintegrate too. In the meantime, we will work with her family to help them become more financially secure and receive support to heal with their own traumas. Her counsellor will make sure she feels safe and learns key skills in coping and healing from her trauma.

Sponsor her today and help her realise her potential, away from the suffering of exploitation and into a future full of promise.
