ABOUT Smile*
Smile* was attending primary school where perpetrators of sexual abuse would pick up students. She was threatened, intimidated and given money to stay quiet. The abuse was hidden for months until another student became pregnant.
She has come to the SHE Rescue Home as a safe place to live while the court case is ongoing and her village is unsafe. She enjoys playing games and her favourite meal is a Khmer noodles and curry.
Smile’S* FAMILY
Smile* comes from a large family. She is one of 7 children. Her father is a fisherman and her mother looks after all of the children. Both of her parents have mental health struggles and this impacts their ability to work and the family struggles financially. This kind of poverty is one of the vulnerabilities that human traffickers and sexual predator’s exploit.
Smile’S* FUTURE
Smile* will stay at the SHE Rescue Home while she heals. She will go to a school designed to help her catch up on missed years of schooling. Her counsellor will make sure she has all the support she needs to heal and her social worker will work with her family to ensure their home is a safe option for future reintegration.
