ABOUT Davy*

Davy* was 14 years old and studying grade 7 when she came to the SHE Rescue Home. Her sexual exploitation occurred within her community and was kept a secret due to threats from her perpetrator who told her no one would ever believe her. Thankfully her family did believe her and an investigation was opened with the police. Her perpetrator was eventually apprehended and jailed, and monetary remuneration was given to her family.

Her favourite colour is pink, she loves to play soccer, and someday she dreams of growing up to become a school teacher!

Davy’s* Reintegration Story

Whilst Davy* was at the at SHE Rescue Home, she showed great leadership skills and was able to support the other girls. She learnt how to keep herself safe and recognise and regulate her feelings with healthy copying skills. Davy* displayed intelligence and she excelled in her English studies.

In September 2019, we celebrated Davy’s* reintegration. She laughed as she played games with the rest of the girls at her party. She returned home with a number of gifts to assist in keeping her safe and well, including a bicycle, phone and mosquito net. We also gave her a 50kg sack of rice to bless her family, and new clothes and shoes which bought a big smile to her face.

Davy* was excited to return home for a few months and then move out into the SHE Transition Home. This allowed her to continue her education, living semi-independently in our dormitory style accommodation, an opportunity not available in her family’s community. Our social workers have assisted Davy* with independence skills and will continue to support her for the next three years. We are pleased that justice was found for Davy* and we look forward to her continuation in her schooling!
